the artisans
The artisans chosen for this project have immense creative ability. With them, we are able to develop exclusive pieces that highlight their techniques, bringing the knowledge and craftsmanship from their traditions to the collections you can find in here.
"we develop exclusive pieces that highlights and gives value to each artisan’s unique technique."

the gomes brothers
This family of eight siblings from the Região dos Lagos, in Rio de Janeiro, have learned the abilities of craftsmanship from their late father, a former truck driver who had to reinvent himself professionally after an accident. It was from him they inherited the skill of working with taboa (a type of local plant), always with the help of the family in the production of the pieces. However, none of them gave value to their own work, nor did they think that craftsmanship could be their main source of income. The partnership with Mapa Design Brasil redirected the work of the Gomes Brothers, led by Eva Gomes - the sister who always believed in the potential of the craft - taking their pieces to another level of success and recognition.
nós da trama
Nós da Trama is a cooperative located in the Região dos Lagos region of Rio de Janeiro, that specializes in handwoven textile art using manual looms. Led by Regina Righi, a pioneer in sustainable work, the initiative used papyrus as the raw material for this collection, sourced from the company Águas de Jurtunaíba, which uses the material for water filtration and purification in the region.
After being dried, the fibers are skillfully crafted by teenagers with special needs, who have found a new sense of purpose in life through the training provided by Nós da Trama. The collaboration between the cooperative and Águas de Jurtunaíba not only promotes sustainability by repurposing materials but also creates meaningful opportunities for these talented individuals, empowering them to contribute to their community and pursue their artistic talents through the art of weaving.

Mario lives in Rio de Janeiro, in the community of Acari, where he began his journey by transforming materials from waste and discarded items he found in the area into artisanal pieces. Today, he teaches his craft to women in his community, providing them with an opportunity for additional income, allowing them to work from home and be close to their children's upbringing.
